Israel | Residents of the north will stop paying for their stay in evacuation from March 1

The Israeli government has approved the procedure for paying for the return home to 64 thousand residents of 43 settlements in northern Israel, who were evacuated for 15 months.

The amount of payments will be 15,360 shekels per adult and 7,680 shekels per child. In addition, families will receive NIS 10,000 per adult and NIS 5,000 per child to cover damage from neglected homes (for example, due to rodent infestations).

Evacuees living in hotels can continue to live in them until July 1, but at the expense of reduced compensation payments. Also, from March 1, the state will stop paying 200 shekels per adult and 100 shekels per child per day for evacuees living in rented apartments or with relatives.

In addition, from March 1, temporary schools for evacuees operating in Tel Aviv, Eilat, Jerusalem and Tiberias will cease to operate.

The mayor of Kiryat Shmona, Avichai Stern, opposed the government’s decision, demanding that the return date be moved to July 1, since the municipality is currently unable to provide residents with the necessary level of services, primarily in the field of education.
