In Trouville, nothing is going well on the Sunday market: “The security conditions are no longer met”

This January 5, in Trouville-sur-mer, the sister seaside resort of Deauville, tension was clearly very high between certain traders and the new market attendant, who had just been hired. Since the start of the year, the town hall has taken over management of the city’s markets. To offer more parking to customers and try to satisfy both sedentary traders and itinerant traders, the commercial surface area of each participant in the market has been reduced by one or two linear meters.

The decision clearly did not go down well with certain traders who would have taken part in a particularly vehement manner against the brand new store. They would have, according to several testimonies, threatened her by ensuring in particular that they knew “where she lived and who her family was”. A deleterious situation which made the latter decide to resign purely and simply from her position.

“This is unacceptable”

“We had just recruited this professional usher who knows the job perfectly. And she suffered unacceptable threats,” protests the mayor, Sylvie de Gaetano. “This is all the more unacceptable since, by managing these markets under management, we have taken over all of the 40 street traders. We even welcomed 30 new ones! So we just ask everyone to reduce the size of their stand a little so that everyone can work. »

While waiting for a new consultation meeting on January 15, the town hall, considering that “the organizational and security conditions are no longer met”, has banned, by municipal decree, markets on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, until new order.
