American Tupperware directors agree to the bankruptcy of Belgian branches (Aalst)

To date, Tupperware’s American headquarters have not commented on the Belgian branches. At the end of last year, the licenses to make or sell pots and other plastic items in Aalst were revoked. This meant that the factory could no longer carry out activities, but the local management did not get a response from the American administrators.

At a final works council meeting last Monday, the local management suggested filing for bankruptcy independently because the staff no longer had work. But it was unclear exactly how that would happen without the Americans’ agreement.

They have now given the green light to dismantle the Belgian branches. There is a factory and a branch in Aalst where products for Tupperware are developed. Unions will now negotiate severance payments and hope for a quick and fair settlement for the affected employees.
