Switzerland under attack by hackers, while world leaders are in Davos

The websites of Swiss banks and municipalities were targeted by cyber attacks just as the World Economic Forum is taking place in Davos. The Federal Office for Information Security (FOSC) confirmed this to AFP. It was, he added, the collective of pro-Russian hackers NoName to claim responsibility for the attack.

The hackers used DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service), which involves overloading websites and applications with targeted requests so that they are no longer accessible. In particular, the websites of the cantonal banks of Zurich and Vaud, as well as the municipalities of Adligenswil, Kriens and Ebikon, near Lucerne. The objective was to “attract attention” to “spread their ideology”, added the OFCS, which had already warned the critical infrastructure operators of such a risk during the Forum. However, such attacks would not, according to them, lead to data loss.
