Elia advises postponement of the most expensive part of the energy island

High-voltage grid operator Elia advises the postponement of the most expensive part of the energy island. That’s what CEO Bernard Gustin says.

The budget of Princess Elisabeth Island has doubled to 7.5 billion euros. This led to a lot of criticism from the business world. Questions also arose from parliament about the increasing bill.

Elia therefore advises to postpone the direct current part of the island. That is the most expensive part of the island, accounting for half of the budget. “We are not going to sign the contract on direct current in February.”

To be clear, the construction of the island itself is not being questioned or postponed. “This is a postponement, not a adjustment,” the CEO emphasizes.
