Boeing flew nearly 12 billion dollars in the red in 2024

The US aviation, space and defense group Boeing suffered a net loss of 11.82 billion dollars (converted 11.3 billion euros) last year. It was also the sixth annual loss in a row. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg hints on the disposal of a number of activities.

Among other things, quality problems in production – in January a door panel was detached from a 737 Max device during the flight – and a weeks -long strike in the factories in the Seattle region, Boeing played a lot last year. The annual turnover fell by 14 percent to $ 66.5 billion and the net loss was more than five times larger than in 2023.

Kelly Ortberg, who has been leading Boeing since the summer, also sees positive signals. “We have made progress in important areas to stabilize the activities,” he says in a press release. In an internal memo to the staff, who could view Bloomberg news agency, the CEO adds that the factories and suppliers are ready to increase production and that a number of loss -making defense programs are being tackled.

“Although it was a difficult year, we see encouraging signs of progress while working on changes on the group,” said Ortberg. He wants to have Boeing focused on the core activities and reject non-core activities.

According to anonymous sources, Boeing may possibly get rid of his navigation branch Jeppenes. There is a lot of interest in the company that has been part of Boeing since 2000 and the sale could yield $ 6 to $ 8 billion, writes Bloomberg.
