Fifty French media have dragged the American social media platform LinkedIn to court. That is what the Alliance de la Presse d’information Générale (APIG), the umbrella organization for interest groups for writing press in France, announced on Wednesday.
“LinkedIn has been using content of the French press for five years without permission and without compensation,” says Pierre Louette, chairman of APIG.
The conflict relates to the so -called neighboring rights, related to copyright. Due to a European directive from 2019, they were extended to digital platforms. This allows newspapers, magazines and press agencies to be reimbursed when their content is reused on the internet, often through extracts of articles on a photo. Earlier, the French media also went to battle against Google, Microsoft and Meta.
