A more than EUR 200 million explosion factory will be built in Pori

On Friday, Finnish explosive manufacturer Forcit announced that it will invest more than EUR 200 million in a new factory that produces a trotle (TNT). It is an explosives used in artillery and grenade launchers. The factory is built in Pori.

At the beginning of last year, the Ministry of Defense launched a project to investigate the availability of TNT from abroad or the construction of the factory in Finland.

“At this new TNT factory, we will respond to an explosive shortage that plagues the whole of Europe and the problems of projection production. The importance of the project led by the Ministry of Defense Antti Häkkänen (kok).

According to him, the investment also enables long -term support for Ukraine to continue. Häkkänen said he had discussed the establishment of a factory with several European ministers and representatives of the Military Association NATO.

Forcit CEO Joakim Westerlund The aim is to start production at the factory in 2028. Most of the production will be exported.

“When completed, the factory is probably the largest troyl plant in Europe. A letter of intent with the Defense Forces creates a solid foundation for the factory demand. About 70 people will work at the factory and the same amount, given the subcontractors and service providers, ”says Westerlund.

Häkkänen On Friday, the Defense Forces signed the TNT explosive with a ten-year letter of intent to Forcit. The total value of the acquisition is at least EUR 255 million. It covers the TNT explosive needs of the Defense Forces for 2028-2037.

Today, the European Union has only one TNT plant located in Poland.

Minister Häkkänen refused to tell the details of the factory’s funding at a press conference. According to him, a wide support of business and international partners has been compiled behind it.

For example, a state -owned equity firm industrial investment is negotiating an investment in the factory.

Founded in 1893, Forcit is owned by a number of Finnish investors and families. The company’s turnover was EUR 110 million in 2023 and operating profit of just under EUR 14 million.
