Vietnamese coffee market share in the US

Vietnam’s coffee market share in the total US imports decreased from 10.71% in 11 months of 2023 to 6.96% in 11 months of 2024.

The January market newsletter of the Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that Vietnam’s coffee exports to most traditional markets decreased.

In particular, Vietnam’s coffee market share in the US, the import market of this largest item in Vietnam, decreased to 6.96% in the last 11 months. In the same period in 2023, Vietnam’s coffee market share in this market at 10.71%.

For 11 months, the US imported coffee from Vietnam reached 94,400 tons, worth 349.9 million USD. This number decreased by 32.1% in volume and decreased by 1.2% in value over the same period in 2023.

In addition to Vietnam, the US is importing coffee from 103 countries and territories around the world. In particular, Brazil is the largest source of coffee for this country, followed by Colombia, Vietnam, Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala …

Last year, the country exported the whole country was about 1.34 million tons, worth 5.6 billion USD. This number decreased by 17.1% in volume. However, the export value still increased by 32.5% because the world price tends to increase.

According to experts, freight rates are one of the reasons why global coffee increases. According to data from the Brazilian government, the country’s coffee exports in December 2024 reached 200,000 tons down 17.1% compared to the same period in 2023. Difficulties at export ports also increased coffee prices.

For the whole year 2024, among the 10 largest coffee import markets in Vietnam, exported to Germany, Italy, Japan, USA, Russia. In contrast, the markets of Spain, Philippines, China, Netherlands, Indonesia buy Vietnam. Exporting this item also recorded an increase in new markets such as Russia, Philippines, and the Netherlands.

In mid -January, the progress of coffee harvesting in the Central Highlands provinces has completed more than 70% of the area. Compared to usual many years of this harvest quite later.
