Winter weather naks sales Het Nieuwsblad

Independent fashion traders have sold on average 8.2 percent less during the winter soldiers than in the same period last year. This is apparent from a poll by Fashion Union and Unizo.

“The gray weather ensured that consumers were not in a positive mood to shop,” explains director of Mode Unie Isolde Delanghe the lesser sale. “Everything that takes place in the world and also the dragging government negotiations frighten the customer.” To avoid overcrowded warehouses, 72 percent of traders had also thought of these factors when purchasing the winter collections.

According to Mode Unie, there is work on the table for the next government. For example, the organization works for a quick ban on free return and for more extensive checks on the dumping practices of ultrafast fashion giants such as Temu and Shein. “If no action is taken quickly at both Belgian and European level, we threaten to see our diverse fashion landscape decreasing at an unseen speed,” Welanghe warns.

Yet there is also light positive news: moderetailers indicate that they expect the same turnover in the coming season as in 2024.(thv/nba)
