French investigative journalists link Decathlon to exploitation in China

According to the researchers, Decathlon appeals to a subcontractor who is guilty of forced work of Uyigboeren, an oppressed Muslim thus in China. In addition, the company would also use cotton that comes from Xinjiang, the home province of the UyGors where accusations of forced labor are widespread.

Decathlon confirmed to the French news agency AFP that it indeed cooperates with the targeted supplier, Qingdao Jifa Group, but added that it “convinces any form of forced labor”.

“We are committed daily to ensure the integrity and respect of fundamental rights in our activities and in our value chain, and we will not hesitate and take all the necessary measures if the facts are proven,” says the company. Decathlon adds that 100 percent of the cotton comes to Decathlon from responsible production without forced labor.

Decathlon belongs to the empire of the Mulliez family. He has a few other large French brands in her portfolio, including Kiabi, Flunch and Auchan.
