Musk attracts Tesla prospective customers with a free current

In the previous year, the US electric car manufacturer remained by around 20,000 cars below the delivery goal and thus missed the value of 2023 when 1.81 million vehicles went to customers. Reasons such as high credit costs, weakening demand, especially in Europe, the tougher competition in China was decisive for this.

Tesla boss Elon Musk, through his new role alongside US President Donald Trump, more controversial than ever, is now against it.

If you buy a Model X or a Model S, you should now be able to load electricity on the company’s own supercharger network for free. This also applies in Austria.

Previously, the prices have been raised again, reports the German Automotive week. Since Friday, the Limousine Model S has been 17,000 euros more expensive than before and has now cost 109,000 euros. The price for the SUV Model X rose by around 15 percent to 114,900 euros. The free current is now included.

2020: “We were idiots”

Years ago, the company had systematically addressed potential customers with this promise, but this practice ended in 2016, writes the Spiegel.

The industry portal Elecrektrek Reminds that company boss Musk in the meantime even categorically excluded to ever offer free current again. Free supercharging is only due to “that we were idiots,” Musk is said to have said in 2020. “But it will never return to any vehicles.”

Tesla operates a network from more than 60,000 fast loading points worldwide.
