Trump signed an order on the duties – this is how Riikka Purra comments

US president Donald Trump has signed an implementation order of 25 % of import duties for steel and aluminum. The duties will enter into force on 12 March.

The decision is likely to accelerate the nascent trade war.

Trump also realized that he was considering prescribing additional duties for cars, medicines and computer chips.

According to US shopping statistics, Canada and Mexico are the largest steel importers to the United States. Brazil and South Korea are also significant steel suppliers.

Trump said he was considering a possible exception to the steel duties for Australia.

European chairman Ursula von der Leyen Said Tuesday that he was mourning Trump’s customs decision. According to von der Leyen, duties are in practice affecting taxes.

“They are harmful to businesses, even worse for consumers,” von der Leyen said in a statement.

The chairman of the Commission appointed the customs unjustified. At the same time, he said that the EU was similar to them in the same measure.

“The EU defends its financial interests. We protect our employees, companies and consumers. ”

In Finland finance minister Riikka bite (PS) has taken a stand on the import duties prescribed by Trump.

Bite asks Message Service X, until when Trump is ready to go with customs. Purra comments that Trump’s import duties will at some point come across American opposition as goods prices begin to rise.

Duties has also commented at least the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to him, the EU reacted to import duties as a common front when needed.

“If the United States does not leave us any other option, the European Union will serve as the largest market in the world,” Scholz comments.

“But I hope we will save on the misleading path of customs duties and newcomers.”
