In his Belgian hyper and supermarkets in-house in-house, Carrefour wants to make Sunday openings and flexi jobs possible. Wilson Wellens from trade union ACLVB confirms this on Thursday after a message The standard.
According to Wellens, the management revealed its proposal on Wednesday during a previously planned meeting with the trade union delegation. “It is about measures that she thinks are needed to keep Carrefour competitive,” it says. The proposal seems to be based on the federal coalition agreement, Wilson notes. The De Wever government wants to abolish the legally required closing day and relax the rules on opening hours.
“Turning each other into compete”
The trade unions are not surprised that the proposal is coming now. “The situation in the sector is so that they are competing for each other,” says Wellens. “To be honest, we had come in with the fear that the management of the management would be much worse.”
The introduction of Sunday openings and flexi-jobs in the stores in-house remain “radical” measures, the trade unionist emphasizes. “But it is positive that social consultations are chosen. Carrefour did not give us a accomplished fact, so we do not close the door. “
What follows is a “broad consultation round” with the staff. “We are going to listen to the concerns of our people and ask what they would like to take instead,” says Wellens. By April 1, the trade unions want to transfer a bundle of requirements to the management. For example, the introduction of flexi jobs should not lead to a higher workload for current staff.
Colruyt, ALDI mother is LIDL
The other retailers who also have many supermarkets under their own management will closely follow the consultation at Carrefour. This mainly concerns Colruyt, Aldi and Lidl. “Carrefour would be the first where Sunday openings and flexi jobs are being introduced in their own stores,” says Wellens. “The others have the advantage that they can now wait for a while.”
In independent supermarkets, other wage and employment conditions apply and Sunday openings and flexi jobs are already the standard.
