For sixth consecutive month, foreign investors withdrew resources from the National Variable Income during January, revealed data from the Bank of Mexico (BDEM).
According to figures from foreign flows to the local Variable Income, these investors withdrew 417 million dollars, the lowest amount since October 2024, when 7.4 million were recorded.
The resources aimed at the acquisition of negotiated stations in the Mexican shareholding market accumulated six months of casualties, since September of last year.
However, the departure of dollars to the national shareholding market was slowed in the first month of this year, which contributed in part to the main Mexican shareholding index to advance 3.42 percent nominal.
Investors withdrew an amount of 5 thousand 183 million dollars for 2024, the largest figure since 2011, when there were 6,565 million. The behavior of foreign portfolio investment in the Mexican Stock Exchange has resent strong volatility, with a downward trend in recent months.
The entry of dollars to the sharehold of artificial intelligence (AI), which is what has led to the markets of the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 to report important yields.
The performance of the economy was not favorable in the second semester of 2024 because in the last quarter there was a contraction of 0.6 percent, according to INEGI data.
Thus, growth is expected in 2024 of 1.5 percent annually, so some specialists fear that at the start of the year the economy will remain weak and can even be negative due to the threats of the new administration of the United States in tariff matters, What if confirmed would imply a recession, from the technical point of view.
This is defined as two consecutive quarters with negative variations in the gross domestic product. However, it cannot be confirmed yet.
Regarding the amount placed, foreign investors reflected an increase – taking into account the output flows and adjustment that the actions in the local variable rent have had. The above could be observed in January, since the valuation of the forefolio of foreigners was in an inverted amount of 135 thousand 307.6 million dollars against 131 thousand 647.3 million of the closing of December 2024, especially in front of 185 thousand 868.4 million of January dollars last year.
