Tel Aviv will be turned into a “city of pedestrians” and allow construction without highness restriction

Next week, the Tel Aviv District Commission for Design and Construction will consider the new general plan for Tel Aviv TA/5500.

The new plan is designed to bring the design base of construction in the city in accordance with the plans for the construction of high-speed tram and metro, including the general plan of TAMA-70.

The TA/5500 plan will make it possible to build up to 100 thousand housing units in Tel Aviv and up to 6 million sq.m. Office premises in addition to existing real estate.

One of the distinguishing points of the plan is the complete lack of restriction of construction altogether in the areas of the location of large transport nodes (intersection points of tram lines and metro lines), such as the southern part of the Glilot district, the Kaplan street, the area between the Ayalon highway and the Podmir Avenue, the Kholon intersection district.

Each housing project in the city, as part of a new plan, will have to include affordable housing, mainly apartments for long -term rent at regulated prices.

In addition, Tel Aviv will be declared a city with a priority for pedestrians. Therefore, the width of the roadway will be narrowed, the shade zones will be expanded, the number of streets, the facades of which will occupy offices and stores, will be reduced, the maximum permitted speed of vehicles will be reduced.
