Forget the straight rows of seats: aircraft manufacturer Airbus sees potential in ‘double -deck chair’

Whether you like it or not, ‘double -deck chairs’ on passenger aircraft are getting a step closer. In 2023, a Spanish start-up pulled big eyes with their concept. Now, two years later, exploratory talks with aircraft giant Airbus are planned.

Forget the current straight rows of seats in an airplane cabin. The Spanish Alejandro Núñez Vicente has come up with a chair system in which two rows of chairs are placed diagonally one above the other. For example, more travelers would fit into an airplane. And passengers have more legroom.

To make way for the top row, the cupboards disappear in front of the hand luggage. The small suitcases, travel bags or backpacks can be put under the passengers. You could adjust the seats in the top row better than the current economy seats.

23 years

Vicente was barely 23 when he launched his concept at the aircraft interiors Expo in Hamburg two years ago. He came up with the seats as a graduation project, and thus kept the Chaise Longue company above the baptismal font. Now his idea might become reality. A spokesperson for aircraft manufacturer Airbus confirmed CNN That it is investigating “double-decker solutions for passenger aircraft”. Furthermore, the French multinational does not yet want to say “because of the early stage”. According to the American news channel, Vicente is “grateful” that Airbus sees “the actual potential”.

Although not everyone is just as enthusiastic about the idea. “What if you have to leave a wind?”, Someone joked on social media. “Stop as many people as possible into a plane,” it sounded in a different response.

Wait and see if we can ever effectively take a seat in the seats.
