The commission was created after the debts of the municipality exceeded 238 million shekels, and the workers did not receive a salary for five months.

“Given the difficult financial situation of the municipality and the need to take immediate measures to improve it, the mayor and members of the Council are not able to carry out the necessary steps, as the situation requires, and therefore cannot continue to fulfill their duties,” the commission said.

In addition to the appointment of the managing committee, the commission recommends “appointing a professional structure for a comprehensive audit in light of a significant scale of the shortcomings and violations in the activities of the municipality.”

At the same time, the members of the commission reject the position of the city hall, according to which the cause of the crisis was the pandemic Covid-19 and the war.
