Colruyt Group wants to open all Okay stores on Sunday morning: “Customers want to be able to do some shopping every day”

Colruyt Group wants to open all the branches of supermarket chain Okay soon on Sunday morning. In this way, the retailer wants to meet customers’ question to be able to do their shopping on every day of the week. In the coming months, the company will consult with the social partners to discuss the new opening hours.

Okay is the neighborhood store of Colruyt Group and has 146 branches and 2,450 employees. According to Colruyt Group, the consumer’s demand is increasing to be able to do groceries on Sundays, and so the retailer wants to meet that question.

“Customers want to do more flexible shopping and especially every day of the week, also on Sundays. We see that this is a trend that continues and evolves the market in that direction, “says Christophe Dehandschutter, director of Okay. “As Colruyt Group, we wish to meet this need and want to open all Okay stores on Sunday morning.”

The management shared the news today with the employees and the social partners of Okay. “In the coming months we will be in close consultation with all parties to further elaborate this,” says Dehandschutter. A starting date on which all OKay branches open their doors on Sundays is not yet known.

Mainly supermarkets with independent managers are often open on Sundays. Among other things, many independent Delhaize stores are open on Sundays and public holidays. Within the Colruyt group, the 22 smaller Okay City stores, the three automatic Okay direct stores, four Cru markets and a number of comarks are already open every Sunday. In addition, the SPAR Colruyt Group stores are also usually open on Sundays by the self-employed. Of the larger Colruyt supermarkets, only those on the coast and in the Ardennes are often open on Sunday morning in busy tourist periods.
