From Mendoza, special sent. – The electric power generating company Genneia which has Jorge Brito As one of its main shareholders, the Malargüe I, in the south of the province of Mendoza which has 90 megawatts (MW) of installed power and will sell renewable energies to large industrial users throughout the country.
The company also announced New investments for 350 million dollars In the province for the next few years, with the construction of a New Solar Park in San Rafael 150 MW and another solar park in Anchorby 180 MW, in the vicinity of Luján de Cuyo.
If in the future there were available capacity for energy transmission, the Malargüe Park could be doubled or tripled, which is the Fourth photovoltaic development of Genneia in Argentina -It has a strong presence in wind energy- and the first in the province of Mendoza. The others are in San Juan: Ullum, Sierras de Ullum and Tocota.
The park covers 312 hectares and incorporates almost 162,000 bifacial solar panels of monochronic silicon manufactured in China by the company Trina Solarcapable of capturing energy both direct and reflected in the soil, thus optimizing its efficiency by up to 10%. Each panel is 2.20 meters high and 1.30 wide. Its useful life is up to 30 years, and every year loses 0.64% efficiency.
How is a solar park
In addition, its modules are mounted on solar followers (trackers), that They adjust their position according to the journey of the sun to maximize energy production. The ideal temperature to generate solar energy is 25 degrees; For each additional degree, 0.16% efficiency is lost.
The average irradiance in summer in this park is 1,200 watts for each square meter (w/m2), while in winter it falls to 850. Between each panel module there is a distance of 7 meters so that the shadow does not harm the one behind.
Panel technology also allows a defense against climatic inclemencies such as rain, snow, wind and hail.
For example, when there is wind from the Andes mountain range, about 24 anemometers detect their arrival and order the panels to be placed at 30 degrees west, which causes the wind to hit the front on the first row and pass over the rest. If the bursts exceed 14 meters per second (about 50 kilometers per hour), they are fixed in defense position.
Rain and snow are used to clean the panels. In that case, they are placed with an angle of 30 degrees but to the east, and even the snow reflects the sun on the ground, which maximizes energy generation.
Yet, Its load factor is 27%. EstOr it means that of the 8,760 hours the year is, an equivalent to 2,365.2 hours is used to generate energy at full power.
This development required an investment exceeding 90 million dollars. In its construction stage, it generated 280 indirect jobs in the peak of work.
Jorge Brito and Alfredo Cornejo at the inauguration
The inauguration was attended by the Genneia management team, headed by Brito; César Rossi, president; Bernardo Andrews, CEO; Representatives of the rest of the shareholders and managers of the company.
On the part of the provincial authorities, the governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo, and the Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre participated; As well as national officials of the Energy Area, such as the Executive Vice President of the Administrative Company of the Electric Wholesale Market (Cammesa), Mario Cairella, and the mayors of Malargüe and San Rafael, Celso Jaque and Omar Félix, respectively.
“We are proud to inaugurate this new park here in Malargüe, confirming Genneia’s growth vocation. We are investing 400 million dollars in Mendoza for the construction of 3 solar parks, adding 420 MW of installed capacity to the system. And in 2026 we will have exceeded 1.4 billion dollars in renewable installed capacity, with 8 wind farms and 6 solar in operation in 5 provinces, “said Brito, a genneia shareholder by 25% next to the Carballo family.
“Mining will be one of our main clients, and in that way we accompany Mendoza, other provinces and Argentina in its objective of an energy transition that drives its development,” he added.
The company also has among its shareholders the Mexican David Martínez, of Fintech (25%) and the Pointstate Argentum Investments Investment Fund (44%), by Darío Lizzano.
Genneia’s story
Genneia has 19% of the total power installed in renewable energywith 21% of the generation of wind energy and 12% of the solar. In January 2025, the company managed to reach 1,250 MW of installed power.
With their wind farms by Rawson, Trelew, Madryn, Chubut Norte, Villalonga, Pomona, Necochea and Elbita, Genneia has a total capacity of 944 MW in wind energy and 310 MW in solar energy, with its Ullum parks, Sierras de Ullum, Tocota III, in the province of San Juan, and Malargüe I in Mendoza.
