Airport-Wien cracks the sales billion for the first time

Vienna Airport was able to significantly increase the number of passengers, 31.7 million in Vienna, and 41.4 million passengers with Malta and Kosice.

Vienna Airport is on a high. “2024 was the best financial year for us in the history of Flughafen Vienna AG,” says board member Julian Jäger. The airport in Vienna achieved a new all-time high with 31.72 million passengers, which is an increase of 7.4 percent. With the sister airports in Malta and Kosice, it was 41.4 million passengers.

“The desire to travel is back, Corona has been overcome and these facts reinforce the economic course of airport Vienna AG,” says board member Günther Ofner. Sales have increased by 13 percent to 1.052 million euros.

“What we are particularly pleased about is that the new federal government is taking a new course for aviation,” says Ofner. “The Green Minister of Transport always strangled when it came to aviation. It is all the more welcome that the new government program contains a positive commitment to the development of the Austria Air Traffic Location. ” This is important because the aviation is a strong growth driver globally.

300 million are invested

“It would be a shame if Austria decoupled,” says Ofner. That is why we will also invest vigorously in the expansion of the location in order to fully exploit the growth options. ”
Around 300 million euros will be invested in Vienna Airport this year. The shell will be completed in summer when the Süder extension of Terminal 3 and go into operation in 2027. The project costs a total of 420 million euros and is made from its own cash flow.

Airportcity is also being expanded. Office Park 4 is expanded by 17,000 square meters of office and conference areas. The construction starts in 2026. In autumn 2025, a new hotel will start operating and a new parking garage is being planned.

Third slopes and SAF

“We are working on preparing the decision about the third slopes,” says Ofner. “Unfortunately, we still have no decision by the Administrative Court.” The Federal Administrative Court decided that the construction time extension is also part of the approval process. “We made an appeal against this decision almost a year ago,” says Ofner. “Unfortunately, there is radio silence so far. It remains that in the course of 2026 we will decide whether and how the project will continue. ”

Ofner also emphasizes that regulation at EU level is a problem in many areas. The duty of admixture of sustainable flight fuel SAF is regulated in such a way that unnecessary increases. Only SAF from European production is recognized as -saved, SAF from other countries is not. “This prevents cheap SAF in favor of favor like the North African deserts,” says Ofner. “The regulative framework represents a massive disadvantage of European airports and airlines.” No SAF does not have to add the airlines from the non -European space.

Outlook 2025

“We expect slight growth for this year. Growth in January and we are satisfied with February, ”says Jäger. “The view of the summer is generally optimistic. We hear from the airlines and tour operators that the pre -bookings are very, very strong. ”
