1.8% income from the telecommunications sector grew

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the revenues of the telecommunications sector were 153 thousand 900 million pesos, which represented an increase of 1.8 percent compared to the same period of 2023, when they added 151 thousand 200 million pesos, said Carlos Hernández, director of Analysis of The Competitive Intelligence Unit.

This represents a slowdown. The market continues to grow; However, we see that at a lower rate, it is because of uncertainty and economic deceleration and that some sectors are no longer growing as we saw in the previous yearshe said.

The growth of the sector’s income began to fall since the end of 2022, according to a signature document.

The mobile telephony segment grew 1.2 percent in the period analyzed due to greater consumption of mobile data and growth in subscribers, impacted by the lowest dynamism of the sale of equipment. This segment presented deceleration, since in the third quarter of 2024 5.4 percent expanded compared to the same period of 2023.

Meanwhile, the pay television segment grew 0.9 percent, impacted by the fall in subscriptions and changes in the investment strategy, while fixed telephony grew 5.7 percent guided by the growth of broadband income and left red numbers behind.

In a videoconference, Hernández explained that the result was supported by 94 thousand 76 million pesos of revenues generated by mobile telephony, which represented 59.8 percent of the total revenues, and in turn, due to the revenues generated by pay television, which were 36,78 million pesos in the October-December 2024 period, which meant 23.4 percent of the total revenues of the sector.
