The US ‘refused and condemned’ 17 goals for sustainable development from the Obama period

This announcement was issued by Edward Heartney, the US Economic and Social Advisor at the United Nations, launched at the General Assembly, before the vote on the “International Day Initiative to live peacefully”, including reaffirming the 2030 agenda on sustainable development.

The goal of sustainable development (SDGS) is the United Nations initiative, supported by 193 member countries, including 17 goals towards global poverty reduction, ensuring prosperity, promoting peace and protecting planets.

“The 2030 agenda and sustainable development goals (SDGS) promote the soft global management program, which is not suitable for American sovereignty, contrary to the rights and interests of the Americans,” Heartney said to the United Nations General Assembly. He added that the new government has understood the roadmap to adjust the ideology of gender and climate ideology that is “spreading” in the above goals.

Regarding gender, Mr. Trump announced that the US government only recognized two sex, male and female, and voiced opposition to transgender and their rights. Meanwhile, sustainable development goals emphasize that they apply to everyone, everywhere and will “not leave anyone behind”, though not specifically mentioning the LGBTQ boundary (including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and unknown gender).

In terms of climate, the new government promotes oil and gas drilling and withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate agreement, and announced it will withdraw the United States from other climate treaties.

Feedback of the US announcement, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, said the sustainable development goals (SDG) and the 2030 agenda were “the path of narrowing the gap, restoring trust and building solidarity”. These are still the principles of the United Nations to promote a world of peace, prosperity and dignity for everyone, towards a better future, healthier, safe, prosperous and more sustainable, according to Mr. Dujarric.

The United States under the former President Barack Obama committed to achieving the UN sustainable goals in 2015, including poverty reduction, gender equality and urgent resolution of climate change.

After the 2016 Donald Trump’s first election, on the basis of “America first”, the United States also opposed multilateral solutions, but did not deny the SDGS targets. When Joe Biden won the election in 2020, the US re -supported, and made an action commitment to achieve the above 17 goals.
