SNCF: the controllers threaten to strike during the April holidays and the May bridges

Will the calm of last months on the rail network are shattered? At the SNCF, the South Rail union filed a strike notice during the weekends-from Thursday 7 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m.-over the period from April 17 to June 2. He responded to a request from the National Collective of Controllers (CNA), born in a Facebook group outside of any union framework, which was already at the origin of the hard social movement during the holiday season in 2022.

“As always, we have been soliciting our management for weeks, but it turns a deaf ear and does not respond to our claims. So we are going to hit hard, where it can hurt, ”warns Olivier, one of the collective officials. “There is indeed a notice to which we are, like all notice, extremely attentive. Dialogue is continuous and nourished with representatives of representative trade union organizations, “said SNCF Travelers, who adds that” not all notices lead to consequences “for travelers.

The controllers, called in the Cheminot Asct jargon, threaten to target part of the weekends of the spring holidays, with first the crossover from April 19 to 20 which concerns the three zones A, B, C. but also all the bridges of May. The Pentecost weekend is, however, spared. The controllers, essential for trains to roll in view of their mission to secure travelers, could in case of strong mobilization – as during their last social movements – to derail the SNCF transport plan, and the holidays of the French with. “We obviously do not want to get there, we are not here to annoy customers,” says Olivier. But our management only moves if we set up an showdown. »»

An increase of 100 euros minimum claimed

The CNA, “dormant” since the agreement on end -of -the -of -the -of -the -care arrangements in February 2024 lightening the impacts of the pension reform on the corporation, requires better evolution of remuneration. In the winter of 2022 the management of the SNCF, under pressure, had, among other things, created new wage levels to satisfy the requirements of its controllers. “The problem is that we can never reach them, since we have a review clause every four years only. For example, I am 53 years old, I am at the level 16, I will finish at 62 and a half at 18, while the grid goes up to 22 “, judges Olivier. The CNA claims that the review clause be reduced to 36 months.

In its notice, Sud Rail also requires an increase of “100 euros minimum monthly” of the work bonus which can represent up to a quarter of the remuneration of the ASCT. The union, well represented among controllers, and the CNA also require “compliance with collective labor schedules”. The railroad workers complain that their schedules are revised “almost overnight” by the SNCF, according to Olivier. In theory, the controllers receive them every three months.

But new software, which would aim to optimize the forces involved, would regularly modify the scheduled working hours. “In February, a colleague on the south-eastern axis was to start at 5 p.m., he learned the day before he was taking his service at 5:30 am. I have already had my day canceled at once to be replaced by someone who usually works on another line, reports Olivier. We accept the constraints inherent in our profession, but there it goes too far. We have a life next to work, but there we cannot organize. The management of SNCF Travelers says it is “very sensitive to the conditions for the exercise of the profession” and recalls that all the commitments made in recent years “have been kept”.
