Dismissed employees of Van Hool receive European support (Lier)

The European Commission wants to free up 8 million euros to help the employees who were dismissed after the bankruptcy of Hool bus builder, she announced on Wednesday.

Van Hool laid down the books in April last year, which, according to the committee, had serious consequences for the labor market in and around Mechelen. One in three fired employees is 54 years or older and one in four low -skilled, which does not make the search for a new job easier.

At the request of Belgium, the committee is released 8 million euros for a package of support measures that should help the former employees of Van Hool find a new job, through advice, training and guidance in the search for work. The Flemish Employment and Vocational Training Service (VDAB) adjusts the remaining 1.4 million euros.

The European money comes from the so -called globalization fund. The European Union supports people who have lost their job because of large -scale restructuring. Since its foundation in 2007, 700 million euros has been paid for more than 170,000 people.
