Vice-President of the EU Commission, Technology Commissioner Henna Virkkunen On Tuesday, the artificial intelligence conference, organized by the Financial Times held in Brussels, said that a new plan is being prepared in the EU Commission to produce artificial intelligence in Europe.
The EU must be able to “design and also produce artificial intelligence,” Virkkunen said.
According to him, the Commission has already begun designing another microchip, the Chips Act 2, which is an important part of the artificial intelligence chips.
The Chips Act 2 is a continuation of the first EU’s first Chips Act, which was aimed at getting part of the microchip production back to Europe.
Virkkunen said that the first microchip performance was “very promising”. This resulted in an investment of approximately EUR 80 billion.
The Commission has stated that the EU is too dependent on microchips from other countries. A significant part of the microchips needed by the Union comes from the United States.
