Loviisa On Wednesday, the city council decided to sell about 300 hectares of land to Fortum, the city reports. One option for land use is nuclear power.

According to the announcement, Fortum’s purpose is to develop the area so that it will be suitable for emission -free energy production or other industrial use of pure transition in the future.

Nuclear power is mentioned as one option. Fortum’s plans are expected to be clarified by 2032 in cooperation with the City of Loviisa

The purchase price is EUR 10.6 million. The City Council also approved the cooperation agreement between the City of Loviisa and Fortum Power and Heat Oy.

The land sold is located in the Källan-Hästholmen area, in the same place as the current Loviisa nuclear power plant.

HS told me on Monday The completion of Fortum’s nuclear studies. The purpose of the study was to map the conditions for the new nuclear power in Finland and Sweden.

However, the results were circular. The problem is that nuclear power is not profitable in the current electricity market without subsidies.

Fortum owns the Loviisa nuclear power plant. It is also a shareholder at the Olkiluoto and Swedish Oskarshamn and Forsmark power plants.
