Trump announced a increase of 25% of customs duties for cars

Donald Trump, at a meeting with reporters in the Oval office, announced the raising of customs duties on the import of cars to a level of 25%. The decree will enter into force on April 2, and the collection of duties will begin the next day.

Trump expressed confidence that the new customs tariffs will lead to the heyday of the automotive industry in the United States. He promised: “You will see, there will be very little time and in the end we will have many people engaged in the automotive industry.”

Trump also noted that manufacturers who have their own factories in the United States welcome his decision. “Those who do not have factories in America will have to build them,” the president said.

The Canadian government made it clear that it intends to act symmetrically and raise customs tariffs for a car industry.
