Phase 1 of Long Thanh airport has a total investment of nearly VND 109,717 billion, an increase of about VND 606 billion compared to the decision in 2020.
On March 29, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a decision to adjust the investment project to build Long Thanh International Airport for phase 1.
Accordingly, the total project investment in this period was raised to more than 109,717 billion VND (equivalent to about 4.7 billion USD, at the exchange rate of 23,390 VND/USD at Vietcombank on 25/5/2020). The project is implemented 2020-2026, which is basically completed by 2025.
The decision also adjusts the investor of some items. Dong Nai People’s Committee will select investors for the fuel pipeline system from the watershed port to the boundary of the airport, airport city, aviation industrial park and flight executive center.
The Ministry of Construction is in charge of selecting investors for the aircraft maintenance area (1-4), the goods station No. 2, the express delivery station and the delivery warehouse No. 5-8.
And the Vietnam Airport Corporation (ACV) invests in the delivery warehouse No. 1-4, solar power system and infrastructure connected to aviation service works.

Long Thanh airport project is 5,000 hectares, total investment is about VND 336,630 billion, starting in early 2021. The project is in phase 1 with the construction of a 4,000 m long runway, 75 m wide, passenger terminal and auxiliary items with a capacity of 25 million and 1.2 million tons of goods per year.
Also according to this adjustment decision, component project 3, including the essential projects of the airport, will be implemented by investors. The main items include aircraft infrastructure, aircraft apron, fuel supply system, passenger terminal, number 1 cargo terminal, parking lot, port executive building and other auxiliary works.
Currently, some items in the project are still delayed. For example, component project 3 has not progressed significantly, despite reaching 36% of the volume. Meanwhile, the package of construction and installation of passenger terminals, is considered the “heart” of the airport, having difficulty because it has to import separate design equipment from abroad. At the meeting to urge this project at the end of January, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested to handle people who slow down the progress of Long Thanh airport, not to let the irresponsible people block the road and remind “If anyone cannot do it, they can stand on one side”.
According to the plan, in phase 2 and 3, Long Thanh airport project will be built and expanded to raise the capacity of 50 million guests, 100 million guests each year, more than 3 times more than Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat.
