American cult fast food chain reports bankruptcy

The restaurant chain had repeatedly been criticized for sexism allegations. Now Hooters wants to change the strategy.

The US fast food chain Hooters Has one on Monday Bankruptcy application submitted. The company suffers from increased costs and less customers, according to a press release.

Only the US locations are affected. The international branches – for example in Deutschland – are not affected because they are led by franchiseists.

In the future, the company wants to reposition itself. A pure franchise model should enable long-term growth. The 100 US locations are handed over to two franchisees who already operate branches of the company.

More family -friendly image

The chain, which is known for their hamburgers, chicken wings and slightly dressed waitresses, also strives for a more family -friendly image.

According to media reports, Hooters has applied for bridging financing of $ 40 million. Of these, $ 35 million should be brought in as new capital.

Branches in Austria

Hooter’s company, Inc. based in Clearwater, Florida, was founded in 1983. The business strategy of the slightly dressed, exclusively female operating personnel has been criticized in recent years.

There were five Hooters branches in Austria. A sixth branch in Vienna was closed in 2007. In 2020, the franchise contracts of the five branches remaining until then were not extended and the branches renamed.
