The generation of electricity through nuclear energy is a project that is sought to be promoted with the installation of four new floors, two of them near the Laguna Verde Nucleotic plant, Daniel Linares Rodríguez, Dragons director of Veracruz reported.
We as a nuclear commission, we are working on offering private investment to the Government of Mexico for two large electricity generation plants, there in the Central de Laguna Verde and two small plants in the peninsulas
he mentioned when participating in the Rosconress International Forum.
We are working on it and the investment towards that technology would be helpful
he added.
He explained that Laguna Verde began its construction in the 70s. From 2007 to 2013 it was reprimanded to have twice as much electric generation capacity; However, it currently only contributes 3.4 percent of the total.
Data from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) of 2022 show that Laguna Verde produces between 4.5 and 4.8 percent of the electricity consumed by the country, represents 8.9 percent of the CFE generation, and constitutes 18 percent of the clean energy generated in the country.
The problem we have had in the energy sector is climate change … nuclear is a very strong option that is taking the world again
Linares said.
The United States, for example, is building two reactors, while El Salvador and Guatemala are thinking of small nuclear plants.
We are not going to be left behind, nuclear electricity generation is one of the most reliable energy sources, since it does not depend on the environment, as with other types of sources, such as renewables
the expert said.
For his part, Israel Jáuregui Nares, general director of the National Commission for the efficient use of energy, stressed when participating in the meeting that the Government seeks to boost energy efficiency, before the renewable generation alternatives.
He clarified that energy efficiency does not alter productivity, but consists in having the same service with less consumption.
Companies have opportunities to achieve energy efficiency and do not know what to do
he commented.
Meanwhile, Ivan Dybov, director of the Rosatom Regional Office in Latin America, explained that the company seeks to participate and collaborate with the Government of Mexico in the development of nuclear energy, either through tenders and project monitoring.
