The registration of one additional toddler came just in time for SBS De Zonnebloem in Meldert. Twice there were too few students counted at the school.
One more day to find a toddler, otherwise this school will close irrevocably
Alderman for Education Matthias De Ridder (N-VA) gave the school until Friday to complete registrations. Because if the school did not have the required number of students at the next count – in February next year – it would have to close at the end of this school year. These plans can now be shelved.
Lifesaver
The school, its four teachers, the parent committee, parents of current and former students, and the former students themselves did everything they could to find one additional student. “We conducted intensive promotion, took photos and videos, handed out brochures and organized an open day,” says teacher Sofie.
On Thursday afternoon around 3 p.m. the redeeming news finally arrived: a toddler had registered and registered. The third kindergarten class will soon have a new student, who saved his future school without even realizing it. “I don’t know yet how the parents ended up with us,” says teacher Sofie. “But we are already extremely grateful to them. Just like everyone who has committed themselves to our school in recent days and weeks. This shows how strongly we hang together.”
Keep growing
“Everyone knows each other here,” says teacher Sofie. “New students are immediately well surrounded. Learning to cycle? Our little ones do this with the help of the older students. We are enormously relieved that our small school can continue to exist. And above all, we are ready to ensure that our school can continue to grow. Moreover, we have already registered some new toddlers for after the Easter holidays.”
