Between April and June of this year, 2,005 cases of railway robbery were reported, which represented a decrease of 12.5 percent compared to the same period in 2024, when 2,293 were registered, according to data from the Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF).
For the agency, the reduction in thefts is attributable to a sustained improvement in operation and inter-institutional coordination.
However, the number of cases of vandalism increased 1.52 percent, going from 4,399 cases to 4,466.

“Although reports of vandalism increased and blockages grew from 8 to 17 cases, the overall balance points towards a sustained improvement in the operating and security conditions of the railway system,” the agency said.
74.2 percent of the theft reports were related to industrial products, followed by agricultural products, with 23.2 percent of the registered incidents.
In the reported period, Coahuila, Aguascalientes, Sonora and Sinaloa were the states with the highest number of robberies, with 398, 270, 215 and 200, respectively.
The year with the most robberies in the sector was 2024, when 4,134 were recorded.
In turn, 2022 was the year with the most cases of vandalism on the railways, since 11,652 were reported; In 2023 they dropped to 9,681 and in 2024 to 8,822.
Regarding railway blockades, they increased to 17 reports, mostly concentrated in Chihuahua and Veracruz.
The report also highlights that from January to June 2025, 64.12 million tons were transported by rail.
“In an environment of uncertainty and global economic moderation, and due to a high comparison base, this figure represents an annual decrease of 6.71 percent compared to the same period in 2024,” the organization commented.
