The year ending on the Helsinki Stock Exchange has been very good compared to many other markets. The OMX general index has risen by more than 20 percent to around 11,700 points since the beginning of the year.
And where will the general index be in a year?
“The bet is 13,500,” he replies of Proprius Partners portfolio manager Mika Heikkilä. If the shares were to increase in price according to Heikkilä’s prediction, it would mean another peak year for Helsinki.
Stock Exchange Foundation managing director Sari Lounasmeri on the other hand predicts that the index will be at 12,500 points a year from now. Actian head of share portfolio management Antti Raappana estimate the reading to be 13,000 points.
A dozen new companies
Next year, 10–12 new companies will be listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange, predicts Mika Heikkilä.
“The gate has now opened and there are no matter how many companies are pushing and wanting to go public,” says Heikkilä in the Markkinaraati program. He refers to the year ending, which increased the number of listed companies by five.
The biggest listing was Placeswhich went public in October. The newest entrant is known for its phone booths Framerywhich is about to be listed on the stock exchange. The initial public offering is currently underway.
Will it come To do to the stock market?
“I can’t say. Fazer may very well be ready and coming,” says Heikkilä.
More growth company
Mika Heikkilä’s hope is that those who list would not see the stock exchange only as an “exit place”, where previous owners reduce their holdings. Rather, the stock market should be seen as an enabler of future growth.
“It’s like a pole for a pole vaulter, with which you can access better markets and get more growth,” Heikkilä compares.
The Stock Exchange Foundation’s Sari Lounasmeri says she hopes that there will also be very growth-oriented companies among the listings.
“A smart ring company is also on the wish list Oura and a space technology company Iceye“, he says.
Oura has repeatedly said that now is not the time to list.
Lounasmeri hopes that companies planning to list would announce the matter earlier than now. In this way, the investor would have more time to get to know the new investment object carefully.
