ChatGPT: Sam Altman declares “code red” for the challenge with Google

The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman declared “code red” company-wide, since its technology ChatGPT faces stiff competition from other big tech competitors, especially Google. The US media reported it. In a memo to staff on Monday, Altman told employees that the company is “at a critical time for ChatGPT” and that resources must be dedicated to fending off new competition from its chatbot.

Altman said other projects will be postponed, including a plan to introduce advertising to the chatbot. According to the memo reported by The Information and the Wall Street Journal, Altman said that “code red” means that OpenAI will also delay progress with other products such as artificial intelligence agents, which aim to automate shopping and health-related tasks.

At a valuation of half a trillion dollars, OpenAI is the most valuable private company in the world. Major investors are eager to acquire shares in the company, but questions are growing about how it can generate enough revenue to cover the huge costs of providing artificial intelligence to its hundreds of millions of users, the vast majority of whom use the service for free.

Last month Google launched its latest Gemini artificial intelligence modelcapping a radical turnaround after being blindsided by the launch of ChatGPT three years ago and derided for early mistakes in its run at OpenAI.
