Mexico will expand its electromobility policy

Cuernavaca, Mor., In times of uncertainty like the current ones, science and technology have become a fundamental part of the future of humanity, speakers agreed when yesterday inaugurated the STS Forum Latam 2025, an initiative that seeks to promote innovation in Mexico.

In his opening message, Marcelo Ebrard, head of the Ministry of Economy, emphasized that today, “unfortunately, the world is a risky space,” so we must reflect. In this sense, he emphasized that, added to freedom, respect and human rights, science and technology are the future of humanity.

Before representatives from 38 countries, Ebrard announced that Mexico will expand its electromobility policy in the coming years and highlighted the creation of new regional agencies in Latin America and the Caribbean to unite efforts, resources and capabilities.

“Cooperating is not an option, it is a responsibility,” he said, insisting that dialogue based on respect allows us to find collective solutions to common problems.

Rosaura Ruiz, Secretary of Sciences, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, stressed that no country can advance alone in the face of today’s great challenges. The forum, he noted, is a space to promote regional unity and remember that cooperation is an obligation with the people.

Raquel Serur, undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that all public action must have the well-being of the people as its goal. The challenge, he added, is to convert scientific and technological collaboration into levers for economic growth.

Margarita González Saravia, governor of Morelos, called for greater collaboration between scientists from Latin American countries to link science and society, with the aim of generating sustainable development and greater social justice.

From Japan, Ryosei Akazawa, Minister of Economy, Commerce and Industry, reported that his country reached agreements with the United States on industrial policy to increase innovation and seeks to deepen relations in science and technology with Mexico and Latin America. He highlighted the importance of implementing free trade policies that accelerate the resolution of social problems and the introduction of technology in the region.

The STS Forum Latam 2025 brings together ministers of science, technology, economy and health, as well as researchers and managers from institutions in the region and from other continents. For two days, topics such as electromobility, aeronautics, space, artificial intelligence and climate change will be addressed, with emphasis on international cooperation as a way to face global challenges.
