Christmas tree arrives at Mechelen Grote Markt: “It is a beautiful specimen from the East Cantons”

An exceptional transport arrived at the Grote Markt in the early hours of Tuesday. “The installation of our Christmas tree is a special moment. Erecting it in a safe way is always exciting,” says Patrick Princen (For Mechelen), Alderman for Public Works.

As is the annual custom, the tree is given a spot in front of the town hall. “It is a beautiful specimen. Our Christmas tree is 14 meters high this year and comes from the East Cantons,” says Patrick Princen (For Mechelen), alderman for Public Works. Compared to last year’s tree, it is noticeable that it is much more beautifully filled.

Workers started hanging lights on the Christmas tree on Tuesday. The Christmas balls will follow on Wednesday. Mechelen always waits until Sinterklaas has left the country to place the tree. The nativity scene right next to it has also been built in the meantime. Mary, Joseph, the Three Kings, a shepherd, sheep, a donkey and an ox have already found their place in the stable. Baby Jesus will have to wait until Christmas on December 25.
