FT: The President of the European Central Bank hints that economic growth will accelerate

European central bank governor Christine Lagarde reviews the newspaper of the Financial Times (FT) in an interview that the eurozone economy will grow more than expected.

The last time the central bank improved its forecast for the euro area’s economic growth was in September.

“My hunch is that we might do the same thing again in December,” CEO Lagarde said.

New the forecast will be published next Thursday, when the central bank will also publish its monetary policy decision. The forecast extends until 2028.

In September, the central bank estimated that the euro area economy would grow by 1.2 percent this year, 1.0 percent next year and 1.3 percent in 2027.

“The eurozone economy is holding up better than we expected in April. When the tariffs hit, the war raged and uncertainty grew, everyone thought that the eurozone’s economic growth would slow down badly, but this has not happened,” CEO Lagarde said, according to the FT.

As worn in the seasonally adjusted gross domestic product of the euro area has grown in each quarter from the previous quarter. In July–September, it grew by 0.3 percent.

The pick-up in economic growth in the Eurozone will probably also strengthen the Finnish economy over time, which according to research institutes will really start to recover next year.
