Almanac confuses salary payment: See on the calculator when you will receive your money in advance

Almanac will produce whims for monthly salarymen next year.

The year 2026 brings nine weekdayswhich, like weekends, advance to the weekday before the salary payment.

In these situations, you get money earlier, but the next payday may be longer.

In the Employment Contracts Act it says that the salary must be paid on the last day of the salary payment period, unless otherwise agreed. It practically means the last day of the month.

Many industries and companies agree differently, but the country does not have accurate statistics on the days chosen.

Statistics Finland tells HS that roughly a third of the salary announcements in its income register are on the 15th. The quarter, on the other hand, is at the end of the month, i.e. practically on the last business day.

Finland the largest employer, i.e. the city of Helsinki, on the other hand, pays its monthly-salaried permanent employees 14th day of the month.

Payment date in the event of a weekend or holiday, the law states the following:

If the employee’s salary is due for payment on a Sunday, a church holiday, Independence or May Day, Christmas or Midsummer’s Eve or a weekday, the due date is considered to be the previous weekday.

HS’s counter reveals that the employees of Helsinki will receive their salary up to five months early next year.

The salary coming in advance can make you happy, but the interval until the next salary payment is longer. For the three example groups mentioned above, the longest gap is 32–33 days in spring and winter.
