Angry farmers: the agreement with Mercosur, the other controversy

The free trade treaty that the European Union is preparing to sign with Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, countries of Mercosur, the South American common market, after twenty-five years of negotiations (!), is the other sting of the agricultural crisis. This trade agreement, commonly called “Mercosur”, plans to drastically reduce customs duties between these Latin American countries and the EU, at the risk of destabilizing farmers, who fear unfair competition. The beef and poultry sectors are particularly worried.
