“Globes”: Wizz Air will open bases in Ben Gurion and Ramona and abandon the impossible demand

According to Globes, Wizz Air has abandoned its most problematic demand for the so-called “seventh freedom of aviation” – permission to fly between Israel and countries outside the European Union without creating an Israeli subsidiary. To comply with this requirement, it is necessary to make changes to Israel’s bilateral agreements with third countries.

In addition, the Hungarian airline agreed to open a base at Ramon Airport, not instead of Ben Gurion Airport, but in addition to it.

Under the latest agreements, Wizz Air will operate two international flights per day from Ramon Airport and domestic flights between Ramon and Ben Gurion Airports.

The issue of the work format has not yet been fully determined. For now, the possibility of an intermediate option is being considered – operating the airline under European regulation but with the creation of a subsidiary for Israeli personnel. The issue of creating a full-fledged subsidiary of the Israeli airline will be considered later.

Wizz Air is scheduled to begin operations from Israel as a base in March 2026.

It is worth noting that the Hungarian airline has yet to commit to continuing flights to Israel in the event of hostilities.
