Savings: the French continue to empty their savings accounts At the end of 2025, life insurance is progressing

Households diversify their investments. Savers had 438.9 billion euros in their Livret A accounts in November, or 800 million euros less than in October, according to figures published Tuesday by the Caisse des Dépôts (CDC).

Similar movement for the LDDS (sustainable and solidarity development booklets), booklets almost identical to the booklet A except for their deposit ceiling: with 161.8 billion euros outstanding, they contained 300 million euros less than in October.

As in October, the French have slightly emptied their booklets, but not necessarily to consume. With a record savings rate, at 18.7% of disposable income, according to the latest figures from the Banque de France, households continue to save, but in financial products other than regulated savings accounts.

The life insurance boom

“The big winner of 2025 is life insurance,” according to the Caisse des Dépôts. Life insurance outstandings had reached 2,100 billion euros at the end of October 2025, up 6.5% year-on-year.

At the same time, interest rates on regulated savings accounts have fallen over the past year, due to lower inflation which is part of the calculation formula. In January, Livret A and LDDS offered an interest rate of 3%, a rate lowered in February to 2.4% then to 1.7% from August.

This rate could further drop to 1.5% or even 1.4% in February 2026, again due to the slowdown in inflation. Bercy will, however, have the last word and will be able to grant a boost to the rate ultimately applied, as it has already done in the past.

Savers have slightly increased their deposits in their popular savings account (LEP), another regulated savings account reserved for households who do not exceed a certain amount of income, with a better interest rate (2.7%).

Outstanding amounts rose to 80.9 billion euros in November, 200 million euros more than in October.
