According to a media report, Nvidia wants for 20 Mrd. Dollar (16.97 billion euros) to take over the developer of AI accelerator chips Groq. The US broadcaster reported this CNBC on Wednesday. The takeover should take place in cash.
The deal would be Nvidia’s largest acquisition since its $6.9 billion purchase of Mellanox Technologies. Groq is one of Jonathan Ross founded chip start-up that specializes in AI inference chips.
The company’s valuation more than doubled
After a financing round of $750 million in September, the company’s valuation had increased more than doubled to $6.9 billion. However, Groq’s fledgling cloud business was not part of the transaction, the report said, citing an investor.
Groq will inform its backers about the agreement later today. Statements from Nvidia and Groq were not initially available.
