Images on social media show how streets were flooded in several villages in the south of Spain during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The emergency services have been carrying out clearing work since the morning. “We continue our search operations to find three people who went missing after the heavy rains,” two near Malaga and one near Granada, the Guardia Civil said on X on Sunday afternoon.

The Spanish meteorological service Aemet lowered the alert level from red to orange for Andalusia on Sunday, but code red remains in force for Valencia until at least 8 p.m., with a risk of flooding on the south coast.

Code red has also been in effect in the Murcia region, on the Mediterranean Sea, since Sunday morning. Aemet also calls for “great caution in the coming hours” in the neighboring Valencia region, also on the coast, where there is a risk of “serious damage”.
