The electricity production of the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit has been interrupted on Friday, January 2, 2026 at around 11 o’clock, informs Teollisuuden Voima Oyj.
Production was interrupted due to a fault situation detected at the reactor plant.
On January 2, the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit of the nuclear power plant underwent an update of the reactor’s power control system software, in connection with which “an error occurred and the reactor shut down”.
“This means a safety function in which the plant unit’s nuclear reaction stops automatically and electricity production is interrupted. In this situation, the plant operated as planned.”
According to the current estimate, the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit will return to production on January 3 at 03:00. In Olkiluoto, the OL1 and OL3 plant units are in production as usual.
According to TVO, the malfunction has no effect on nuclear safety.
