Ultra athlete Matthieu Bonne (31) has set a new world record: scored more than 21,000 free throws in 22 hours

Bonne started his latest record attempt on Sunday evening at 8 p.m. in the Coretec Dôme, the Ostend basketball temple of top club BCO. The goal of the ultra athlete from Bredene was to score more than 21,000 free throws in 24 hours. Or rather 21,002, because the previous world record, held by the American Matt Bostic, was 21,001.

On Monday at 5:58 PM, the record was equaled: with just over two hours to spare, Bonne equaled the record by scoring his 21,001st free throw. The West Flemish decided to throw even further to set the record as sharply as possible: at 6:20 p.m. he was already at 21,178, as shown by the live feed of his record attempt on YouTube.

Bonne averaged almost 1,000 free throws per hour, one every 3 to 4 seconds. In the first hours he barely missed, but on Monday around noon the fatigue started to weigh somewhat and the scoring percentage dropped slightly for a while. Fortunately, the West Flemish regained his rhythm and soon scored again.

It is not the first record to his name. Last year, he smashed a world record that had stood since 1996 by running more than 485 kilometers in 48 hours.
