Production increased slightly in November, the decrease in October multiplied as the data became more detailed

In November 2025 production adjusted for working days increased by 0.3 percent from November of the previous year, Statistics Finland said on Tuesday.

The November forecast was saved to the plus side by a large working day correction, Statistics Finland reports. The actual prognosis was negative. There were now exceptionally few working days in November, the same number as in February.

November’s seasonally adjusted production increased by 1.3 percent from the previous month.

In October In 2025, production adjusted for working days decreased by 1.8 percent from October of the previous year, according to detailed information.

Construction and industry had been weaker than anticipated.

The change to the previous reading was significant – previously the decline in the production of the national economy from October of the previous year was estimated to be only 0.1 percent.

Chief Actuary of Statistics Finland Esa-Petter Österman says that the predictive figure will be completed 30 days after receiving the information. In this case, the information is largely based on information and turnover figures received from industry.

“There is still a lot of incomplete information in these models, and shocks are left out of the data.”

A similar situation occurred in the production data published in July and August, when as the data became more detailed, the production was checked downwards, says Österman.

“The forecast gave a more positive picture than the situation was.”

At that time, Statistics Finland predicted a zero development adjusted for working days, but the reality was revised in September with a sharp drop of more than 2 percent.

Even after the revisions of the quarterly accounts, today the figure is still 1.5 percent below zero.

Production was contracting in the third quarter of the year, as it has been throughout the year.

“It doesn’t look very bright. The industry is pulling down. Even private consumption was only slightly positive in the third quarter of the year, which means that demand is only just beginning,” Österman estimates.

Production measures the quantity or value of goods and services produced over time. The final result of the production of the national economy is called gross domestic product (GDP). It describes economic growth.

Seasonally adjusted in the production figure, regular seasonal fluctuations such as the quiet times of summer or the busy sales of Christmas are removed from the data.

In this way, the aim is to better monitor the development of production on a monthly basis.

Working day-adjusted production only removes the effect of the variation of weekdays in different months.
