Glock supplies assault rifles to the British police

The Ferlach gun manufacturer Glock (sales of 670 million euros, profit of 102 million euros) has landed a new, lucrative order. What is little known to the general public is that Glock not only produces pistols, but also a rifle called the GR-115. This is a carbine based on the AR-15 platform, which is widely used worldwide.

“The GR-115 has been officially selected as the weapon of choice for specialized armed police units across the country,” said British Glock distributor Viking Arms. “The GR-115 outperformed products from leading global manufacturers and achieved the highest score for precision both with and without a silencer.”

Within a framework agreement, eight British police organizations can choose from six different brands from Belgium, Israel, Italy, Austria and the USA.

Up to 3,000 rifles

“The Glock GR-115 achieved the highest rating among approved carbines, enabling approximately 50 individual police units in the UK” to select a rifle for their operational requirements. In addition to the framework contract, the Austrians were “awarded an exclusive contract to supply a high-ranking national police network”. Industry experts assume that Glock will deliver up to 3,000 rifles to the British police this year alone.

According to reports, a GR-115 costs just over $2,000. That’s more than other manufacturers’ AR-15 models.

However, Glock has a good reputation in Great Britain, as the armed police have been equipped with Glock 17 pistols for years.

Currently, the GR-115 is only sold to “select law enforcement and military customers.” So far, Glock has sold around 1,000 rifles to Brazil.
