Youtube, parents can now limit or turn off shorts

YouTube has announced the introduction of new tools parental control in particular to manage the time that children and adolescents they pass on YouTube Shorts. Parents will be able to set a timer which limits how much time your children’s linked accounts can spend on short videos TikTok or Instagram Reels style, with the aim of reducing the infinite and little-aware “scroll”.

It will also be possible to completely block the vision of the Shorts permanently or temporarily, for example when a child should use YouTube to study and watch educational content. The Google platform will also allow you to set personalized reminders of “Bedtime” (time to go to bed) and “Take a Break” (take a break), which invite you to stop watching. Similar functions are also available for adults, who can decide to apply limits and reminders independently.

Account management and alternation

However, this could all be inconvenient for those who use both an adult account and one for their children and have to constantly switch from one to the other. In the coming weeks, YouTube will update the registration process in the app to make it easier switch accounts with just a few taps, as long as you remember to make the switch.

Pre-existing controls and social context

The novelty they are added to the checks already available for adolescents, including the supervision of channel activity in the event that the teenager publishes content independently. Similar tools, now common and widespread on social media, are also present on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram e Facebook. Finally, last year YouTube presented a age estimation technology designed to predict whether an account belongs to a teenager and provide a more suitable experience for them age range.
