Regina Fuchs took over the management of the main statistics department at the beginning of the year Austrian National Bank (OeNB) and is therefore the second of the three management changes at the National Bank announced last year. The proven statistics expert previously headed the Population Directorate and the Austrian Micro Data Center at Statistics Austria, the establishment of which she has played a key role in shaping since 2022. Fuchs studied economics and received his doctorate in social and economic sciences from the WU Vienna.
“I am very much looking forward to this new challenge and will work to network the statistics and data worlds in public organizations even more closely,” said Fuchs. The National Bank says: “Their many years of experience and analytical skills will support the OeNB in continuing to provide precise and forward-looking data for monetary policy and the economy.”
After Gabriela de Raaijwhich took over the Department of European Banking and IT Supervision on November 1, 2025, and Regina Fuchs will take over from February 1 Wolf Heinrich Reuter as the new chief economist. The German economist solves this Birgit Niessner who has held this position since 2021.
Wolf Heinrich Reuter was a former chief economist and later state secretary under the German FDP ex-finance minister Christian Lindner. Reuter has worked in Austria for more than two decades and has OeNB experience. In the future, he will occupy the position of chief economist at the interface between economic research and consulting.
